BMS Energy Controls
BMS Energy Controls was founded in 2009, and we have gone from strength to strength each year. Our team comprises five engineers who cover the entirety of Scotland, with bases in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Perth.
Our customers are at the core of our company ethos, and we endeavour to provide the highest levels of customer care at all times. Whether our clients are receiving upgrades, maintenance work or an emergency call out, our staff will complete tasks to the highest standard and in a professional manner.
We are fully committed to staff training and continuous professional development. Our team is constantly expanding their knowledge in engineering products, technical advances, electrical knowledge, environmental or health and safety issues.
Derek Orr
Derek has over 29 years’ experience building controls and working in servicing, commissioning and designing energy systems.
Derek started his career with the Royal Air Force (RAF). While in the RAF he gained the fundamental building blocks in electrical and electronic systems, working primarily on Tornado F3 fighters. The training and experience paved the way for Derek’s successful career!
He was first introduced to BMS controls after leaving the RAF in 1990. The early 90s signalled the start of the growth in building energy management systems, and Derek began working with Satchwell, who were renowned at the time for giving the best training in the industry.
He went on to learn and specialise in a number of building management systems, computers, networking and programming. He believes learning is for life, and this has been fundamental to the knowledge and experience he has gained throughout his career.
In his spare time Derek enjoys running and regularly takes part in ParkRun, a weekly 5km jog held in local parks throughout the UK.
Walter Tallis
Walter has worked in the industry for the last thirty years.
He started his career as an Installation Electrician and then moved to electrical maintenance where he first learned to build electrical control panels. After 10 years he moved to Building Management Control Systems and started working with Satchwell Control Systems as a Service Engineer then, being promoted to a Team Leader and finally moving on to be an Energy Consultant. In 2009 he left Satchwell to start BMS with Derek.
Walter is based in Arbroath and covers the East Coast region for BMS, mainly from Perth to Aberdeen. He is a solution focused thinker and takes great satisfaction in solving customer issues and presenting solutions.
When he’s not working, Walter enjoys country or coastal walks to enjoy Scotland’s beautiful scenery and wildlife.
